Public Charity –  A Public Charity is a non-profit organization that has applied and been approved by the IRS for 501c3 tax deductible public charity status. Typically Public Charities must either have a social benefit, and are technically owned as part of the public good. The only reason to need a public charity organization is if you have a active donor who needs tax exempt status, or if you need to write a grant.
